My Story
Welcome to Bowie State University’s 2022 Senior Thesis Fashion Exhibition! Please feel free to check out Taylor’s exhibition but be sure to refer to her brief biography in order to interpret more about her previous educational experiences prior to attending Bowie State. Taylor Mercedes Bennett was born, raised and educated in Washington, D.C. After graduating from McKinley Technology Highschool in 2016 she attended Hampton University majoring in Journalism and Communications in hopes of becoming one of the most memorable female African American sports commentators on television. Attaining internship experience allowed her to see the “ins and outs” of how journalists must conform to a particular lifestyle, behavior and etiquette favored by society in order to be successful. After briefly studying Journalism and Communications in Virginia, she realized that Fashion was her ultimate passion and Hampton University did not offer a fashion program. She transferred from Hampton University to Bowie State University in the spring semester of 2018. Bowie State University seemed like the best option for a bachelor’s degree in Fashion & Design, based on the positive feedback given by various alumni. Majoring in Fashion & Design has allowed her to acquire new skills, training and set goals that exceeds the intermediate techniques of fashion design. With the help of Bowie State’s fashion department, she was also able to combine technology with traditional fashion tactics that includes many segments of digital media. The ability to practice fashion in various styles or strategies makes fashion majors a greater asset to many jobs as the world continues to improve in technology each year.
